What Is Included in Our Skim Coating Package
Our complete skim coating package includes surface protection, agreed repairs, full-surface skim coating, sanding, primer, and interior painting. Your written proposal identifies the walls and ceilings included and the preparation needed for your project.
Surface Protection and Preparation
Protect floors with paper and cover nearby surfaces with plastic as needed. Prepare the work area and establish dust containment appropriate to the project.
Drywall Repairs and Surface Correction
Address the agreed cracks, damaged sections, loose material, and uneven repairs. Prepare the existing surface for adhesion before applying new compound.
Full-Surface Skim Coating
Apply joint compound across the designated walls or ceilings. Build and refine the surface as needed to smooth the existing texture and prepare for finishing.
Sanding and Finish Inspection
Sand the surface, check transitions and details, and complete touch-ups before primer. Review the finish with the room’s lighting and intended paint in mind.
Primer and Interior Painting
Apply the appropriate primer, including PVA on suitable new drywall compound, followed by at least two coats of interior paint on the agreed surfaces.
Cleanup and Final Walkthrough
Remove project debris and protection, clean the work area, and review the completed finish with you. Qualifying workmanship is backed by our 12-month craftsmanship warranty.

Is Skim Coating the Same as a Level 5 Drywall Finish?
Not necessarily. Skim coating is a technique used to smooth a surface. A Level 5 drywall finish includes the joint, fastener, and corner finishing required for Level 4, plus a skim coat across the entire surface.
Existing Painted or Textured Walls
The work starts with the condition of the existing surface. Texture depth, adhesion, previous repairs, and damage determine the preparation and coating needed. The goal is a smooth, consistent surface for primer and paint.
New Drywall With a Level 5 Finish
Level 5 includes the joint, fastener, and corner finishing required for Level 4, plus a skim coat across the entire surface. It is often appropriate for critical lighting, glossier paint, and interiors where a highly uniform finish matters.
Skim coating improves surface smoothness; it does not straighten framing or correct every underlying wall irregularity. We review those conditions before recommending the scope.
